My Personal Healing Journey
I spent a lot of my early life feeling ill, having menstrual issues, pain, migraines, sinus issues, asthma and all kinds of allergies. And until my late 20’s I didn’t think anything was wrong. I thought what I felt was normal because I didn't know anything else about what it meant to feel healthy.
I started to feel really sick as my Masters program was coming to an end. No matter what I did, I couldn’t get better, and couldn’t find what was wrong. I ALWAYS felt better after going back to the Ayurvedic diet and herbal concoctions I grew up with, but after I turned 30, that wasn’t enough. I’d get sick shortly after I started eating “regular” food again.
"Through healing myself I have become the practitioner I wish I had through my own health journey and I would be more than honored to help you on yours." - Dr. Mili Shah, L.Ac, DACM
For more than a year, my mentor begged me to cut out gluten and processed sugar and start getting regular treatment. My diet wasn't "bad" but what he was seeing was a deeper issue. When I was ready, I began healing through the elimination diet. It became an empowering moment. I discovered I what was wrong and the fix was rooted in my diet and lifestyle. I was taking courses for my Doctorate at the time and with that knowledge of functional medicine and nutrition, I put together a program for myself that combined what I knew about treating hormonal imbalances, fertility health, mental health, and gut issues, and how they were all connected with ancient diets, philosophy, acupuncture, herbal medicine and self care practices.
The healing process took a lot of planning, research, and changing what I knew about my personal health. There was emotional work that I needed to do to make those changes in my life and I didn’t realize how my mental health had been impacted by my physical health, or the depression and anxiety feedback cycle that I was in. Acupuncture provided me with a point of connection and grounding, and Herbal Therapy provided energy and nourishment. I couldn’t do it alone and having people in my corner was so important.

What I also learned since then is that I LOVE helping others. Since 2015 I have been helping people figure out where the imbalance lies, and planning out what changes are necessary to get them back to their best lives. I love collaborating and creating a healing experience that we both participate in and I love watching you thrive.

What Patients Say
Mili is amazing. This was my first experience with acupuncture and Chinese medicine. She made me feel comfortable the entire time and her work was very effective.
The cupping procedure was very enjoyable as well. It felt like an amazing deep massage and I have some cool looking back hickeys as a souvenir LOL.
If you're looking for a great acupuncturist in San Diego who has a lot of experience with traditional Chinese medicine, then Mili is the perfect choice.
